My daughter The free range Genius and Ascended Master- age 5?
I was completely oblivious that the leatherbound sketchbook I selfishly bought for myself, would prove to be so important. I like to buy a “special” carry along sketch and writing book to capture my thoughts and whims along the way every year in attempts to become more prolific or artsy. I guess the leather and fancy binding, makes me feel more fancy. -More binding to my tra
de. Knowing that the feelings inside may be fugacious. The proof of abstraction that I have documented seems to be the same every year.
This year is a bit different. My youngest is 5 years old. She is one of 6.
I was writing my ponders in my pad one day she wouldn’t quit interrupting me.She always is very courteous, except this day. So I dug out my colored ink pens and asked her to color a picture in my “special” book. I told her “Be sure to make it really special- It is permanent”. So I wanted her to do her best. Mainly, though I wanted to buy some more time to finish my thought.
When she finished, quite quickly may I add, I noticed she had not drawn a face on her person. I asked “You forgot the face, baby girl.” She was confused looking. The reply from her simply put “She doesn’t have an expression yet, that’s why.” Floored and in an absolute taken back moment I literally gasped. She continued to say
“Like the kids that go to school. They aren’t allowed to talk and they have to listen and listen and they never get to have an expression either.” She took a brief pause and then wisely added “ In the old-en days girls couldn’t talk, and kids couldn’t talk only the daddy’s. Boy oh boy, I would sure be in a lot of trouble if it was the olden days.I said “Why is that Lilly?” “because”, she said “ I’m a girl,I’m a kid, and I’m glad I am not one of the kids that has no expression because in my pictures, I got smiles and words.”
